Starting point: Marsa Matruh (Mediterranean coast, approximately 290 km west of Alexandria)

Goal: Siwa Oasis (near the Libyan border)

There are wonderful sights and some small lakes where the water is very salty. We can also swim there. The trip takes 7-8 days until we return to Marsa Matruh. The trail ride is accompanied by a car so that we have enough water and feed for the horses. So, no need to worry! We will not be alone. There is the possibility to bring a tent for sleeping, or for those who prefer, to sleep in the large car..

🌿 Nature & Relaxation

• Salt Lakes: The mirror-smooth salt lakes of Siwa invite swimming and relaxation. Due to their high salt content, they allow for effortless floating on the surface, similar to the Dead Sea.
• Hot Springs: Siwa is home to over 200 natural springs. The Haayat Spring and the Cleopatra Spring are particularly popular, known for their healing properties.

🏛️ Historical Sites

• Temple of Amun (Oracle Temple): This temple from the 6th century BC was once a significant oracle center, which was even visited by Alexander the Great.
• Shali Fortress: The ruins of this fortress built from salt and clay offer an impressive view over the oasis and tell the story of Siwa.
• Mountain of the Dead: An ancient necropolis with rock-cut tombs from the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, some with well-preserved wall paintings.
